When Medicine Is Available and Affordable

Care can begin right away.

One afternoon at a treatment center in Lebanon, four-year-old Hamza spotted someone taking photos. With a cheeky grin, he gently “stole” the phone and proudly announced that he would be the photographer instead. Laughter filled the room.

For a few minutes, Hamza wasn’t a patient. He was just a little boy.

That moment captures everything about Hamza: joyful, curious, and full of life. Outside that room, though, the fight is very real. Hamza is battling leukemia and depends on a steady supply of cancer treatment medication to stay on the path toward healing.

In many developing countries, the medicines children need simply aren’t available—and when they are, families often can’t afford them. A child can have a diagnosis, a doctor, and a path to treatment, and still go without, because the medicine simply isn’t there.

That’s the gap donors like you help close.

35 Years of Getting Medicines to Children

Since 1991, our Medicines for Children program has saved the lives of children worldwide!

More than $680 million in medicines have been delivered across 28 countries, reaching 4.7 million people. These include antibiotics, treatments for malaria and pneumonia, medications for chronic illness, and cancer therapies.

Each delivery helps ensure that when a child arrives at a hospital or clinic, the medicine they need is available.

What This Means in a Rural Clinic

When medicines are available, care can begin immediately.

A sick child doesn’t have to wait while a family travels long distances for medicines that are not always available.

A parent doesn’t have to choose between feeding their family or paying for medicine they can’t afford.

Care continues as it should—giving children an opportunity to heal.

Thanks to partnerships we have built and maintained over decades, every $1 donated delivers at least $50 in medicines.

A $50 gift becomes $2,500 in medicine, enough to treat dozens of children. A $100 gift becomes $5,000. A $250 gift becomes $12,500.
