Asiata Fatuma is 73 years old. She was born in Kiroche, raised ten children there, and for decades, her family lived peacefully on their land. Then one night, armed rebels stormed her village. One of her sons was struck by gunfire. Asiata and her family fled into the darkness, leaving behind their home, their crops, and a lifetime of memories.
They eventually reached Sake Camp in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), where she has now lived for four years. Sake camp houses tens of thousands of people. Food is scarce, families sleep crowded together, and every week, more people arrive, fleeing the same violence Asiata escaped.
International Relief Teams works with trusted partners in the communities we serve. They know the roads, the families, and how to move supplies even when conditions are difficult.
For families like Asiata’s, that means critical aid can reach the people who need it most. Asiata received food because someone like you chose to give.
“This food will help me keep going,” she said.
But demand in eastern DRC continues to increase as additional families seek refuge in displacement camps.
Behind Asiata’s story are countless others: a grandmother caring for grandchildren who lost their parents, a clinic worker stretching limited supplies across hundreds of patients, a family with nowhere left to go.
In places like eastern DRC, Sudan, and Kenya, conflict and poverty create emergencies that can escalate without warning. The faster International Relief Teams can mobilize, the more families can be reached while the need is most urgent. That speed depends on donors who give before a crisis makes the headlines.
Monthly giving means families like Asiata’s are not left waiting when the next crisis hits.
When you become a monthly donor, you help ensure food, medicine, and essential supplies are already in motion and are ready to reach families during times of conflict and crisis. Through the support of monthly donors, International Relief Teams can respond quickly to reach people when the need is most urgent.
Your ongoing support also helps sustain the partnerships that make our work possible. These trusted teams are often the first ones on the ground, navigating difficult roads, identifying the most vulnerable families, and delivering aid where it’s needed most. This is what makes our swift response possible.
For families like Asiata’s who have lost everything, that consistency matters. It means one less day without food, one less night of uncertainty, and a chance to survive to see tomorrow.
Asiata is deeply grateful for the food she received and hopes that one day she will return home. Your generosity makes a difference in the lives of people like Asiata. It allows us to respond quickly and effectively when the next family needs help.
Every gift you give helps reach displaced families and ensures aid can move quickly when conflict or disaster strikes. You can give today to prepare for tomorrow, become a monthly donor to support a variety of programs helping families around the world, or leave a legacy gift to ensure families in crisis receive the help they need for years to come.
