An unprecedented drought is putting millions of people at risk of famine in the Horn of Africa. The crisis is impacting nearly 37 million people, including over 20 million children. Five consecutive failed rainy seasons have decimated crops, killed livestock, and destroyed livelihoods, leading to famine in Africa. Severe shortages of water and pasture have pushed families out of their homes and fomented conflict between communities.
The Turkana tribe in Kenya have not seen rain in nearly five years. Almost all of the herds of this pastoralist tribe have died.
International Relief Teams has been focusing on helping those affected by the famine, especially hard-hit Kenya and Somalia, through the provision of emergency food supplies. By working with our partners on the ground, we were able to provide resources to some of the most gravely drought-affected areas of Northern Kenya.
