Bread That Brings Hope: How You Feed Families After Disaster

Feed families after disaster

In a small village in southern Ukraine, the warm smell of bread drifts from a simple oven. For families who have lost homes, jobs, and peace of mind, that smell means more than food. It means survival.

Bread is deeply woven into Ukraine’s identity, symbolized even in its flag, yet the war threatens both the nation’s proud grain tradition and the basic food security of its people. Despite once feeding the world, many Ukrainians are now struggling to access flour and other essentials.

Your Impact at a Glance

  • 27,000 loaves of bread delivered
  • Bread delivered to 5 villages across Mykolaiv
  • 1,153 families sustained with food when markets and crops were gone

The symbol of a nation is now in short supply.

In response, local bakers stepped forward with a simple yet powerful solution: Bake for Ukraine.

“We cannot stop,” one baker explained. “People are hungry, children are hungry. As long as we have flour, we will bake.”

With support from International Relief Teams, mobile bakeries — ovens on wheels — now deliver fresh bread to hard-hit regions. This mobility is critical, bringing nourishment directly to families where supply chains have collapsed and shelves are bare.

But these bakeries are more than a source of food. They provide training for displaced people, restore stability in the midst of war, and keep alive a tradition that binds communities together. They deliver both immediate relief and a foundation for the future.

More than 27,000 loaves have been distributed across five villages — nourishing over 1,100 families. Every loaf is a reminder of tradition, resilience, and care in the face of hardship.

Because of our donors, families in Ukraine have food they can count on. For children, bread means strength; for parents, relief.

Food is always the first need after a disaster. And thanks to our donors, families never have to face hunger alone. As we look ahead, the need remains urgent. The ovens in Ukraine must keep burning. Families in disaster zones around the world still wait for relief.

You can keep them fed. You can turn stories of hunger into stories of hope.

Give today to feed families after disaster, at home, and around the world.
