Sunflowers for Ukraine: Two Sisters, One Mission

When sisters Emma (6) and Amelia (8) saw the news of Ukraine’s conflict, they felt a deep need to help.

Determined to make a difference, they created a Sunflower- and Ukraine-themed art project and auction in Montrose, Colorado. With the help of their parents, Sarah and David, the girls helped to mobilize their community through Sunflowers for Ukraine.

Hundreds of local artists joined, from schoolchildren to neighbors, creating artwork filled with hope and compassion. The pieces were displayed at local creative businesses and the Montrose Center for the Arts, brightening the town.

Their fundraising activities were joyful and diverse: a student art exhibit and auction, a sidewalk chalk mural, and art classes. They also hosted jewelry-making, a Banana Stand, and a Sunflower Stroll on Main Street, engaging everyone.

Local businesses rallied behind them, including Horsefly Brewing, SheShe Boutique, Fabula, and Mosaic, along with three Colorado school districts. Together, the community came alive in support of children and families far away.

After careful research, Emma and Amelia chose International Relief Teams for our proven ability to deliver aid worldwide. Through their courage, creativity, and determination, they raised over $7,000 to help families affected by the conflict.

Some of the wonderful artwork can be found here.

Thank you, Emma and Amelia, for showing that even the youngest voices can bring hope and change.
