WHAT INFORMATION DO WE COLLECT?

In Short: We collect personal information that you provide to us.

We collect personal information that you voluntarily provide to us when you interact with us through our website or otherwise.  This includes without limitation when you use our website or volunteer or participate in our programs or express an interest in obtaining information about our organization, programs and other charitable activities.  The personal information that we collect depends on the context of your interactions with us, the choices you make, and the programs and features of our website that you use.  Examples of the types of personal information that we may collect about you include without limitation:

  • Identifying Information.  This includes: names, nicknames, social media account names; phone numbers; email addresses; and mailing addresses. 
  • Characteristics of Protected Classifications Under California or U.S. LawWe may collect information about your age, gender, marital status, and pro-noun preference.
  • Payment/Donation Data. We may collect data necessary to process your payment if you make donations, such as the amount of your donation, your payment instrument number, billing address, the security code associated with your payment instrument, any information regarding donated assets and their fair market value, and all other financial information that you provide us. We may process and store all donor/payment data through the use of secure third party vendors and applications.  For example, all payment data is stored by FundraiseUp.   • Audio and Visual InformationWe may collect information from you during your use of a telephone or mobile device to access our website.  For example, we may record your voice when you call customer service, collect voice recordings of you when you leave voicemails on our voice mail boxes, take pictures or image recordings of you if you attend one of our promotional and fundraising events or if you choose to send us pictures or recordings of you.  
  • Professional or Employment-Related Information. We may collect information about your profession and employment history when you apply to be a volunteer, employee or other service provider.   
  • Non-Public Education Information. If you apply to be a volunteer, employee or other service provider of International Relief Teams, you may voluntarily provide us, and we may collect, the name of the school(s) you attended and other information relating to your secondary and post-secondary education, including any graduate or professional degrees you may obtained.

Other Categories of Personal Information that Relates to or is Reasonably Capable of Being Associated With You. We may collect information from you when you interact with our social media websites, networks, chat features or other services that host user-generated content (e.g., your comments to our Instagram or Facebook posts or when you tag or otherwise link us in your social media posts). We may also gather information about what causes interests you, causes you donated to, types of fundraising events and programs you participated in, whether you have construction skills, shirt size, flight preference, type of traveling documents used when traveling internationally and any other information inferred or which we derive from our correspondence with you.Sensitive Personal Information. We may collect gender or pro noun preferences that our volunteers, employees, contractors or donors identify with. We may also collect general health information from our volunteers and employees, including one’s blood type, a general description of one’s health, medications currently taking and if they have any allergies.

Information automatically collected

In Short: Some information — such as your Internet Protocol (IP) address and/or browser and device characteristics — is collected automatically when you visit our website.

We automatically collect certain information when you visit, use, or navigate our website. This information does not reveal your specific identity (like your name or contact information) but may include device and usage information, such as your IP address, browser and device characteristics, operating system, language preferences, referring URLs, device name, country, location, information about how and when you use our website, and other technical information. This information is primarily needed to maintain the security and operation of our website, and for our internal analytics and reporting purposes.

Information from third parties and other sources

In Short:  We may collect personal information about you from other sources, including without limitation your company/organization, professional and personal references, our service providers, social media networks, public forums and other third parties.   

We may receive your personal information if another person designates you as a contact person for your company/organization or includes information about you in proposal documents, social media posts, articles, feedback, comments, responses, messages, chats, photos, videos, or other data or content submitted through our website. We may also receive your personal information from one of our volunteers, donors, employees, third-party analytics providers, service providers or a third party acting on apparent authority provides it to us.  We may also obtain your information through public sources, including without limitation through your profile on social media websites or social media posts which you have voluntarily linked to us or our social media posts which you interacted with.

HOW DO WE PROCESS YOUR INFORMATION?

In Short: We process your information for various reasons and purposes, including without limitation to provide, improve, and administer our website, program strategies and charitable activities, to communicate with you, to prevent fraud, and to comply with law. We may also process your information for other purposes with your consent.

We process your personal information for a variety of reasons, depending on how you interact with us.  This includes without limitation:

  • To respond to and process applications to be a volunteer, employee or other service provider. You may apply to become a volunteer, employee or other service provider to our organization through out website.  We will collect information about your application for these positions and will contact you accordingly regarding such interests. 
  • To request feedback. We may process your information when necessary to request feedback and to contact you about your use of our website.
  • To respond to your messages and inquiries or to send you communications about our program strategies and charitable activities. We may process your information to respond to your messages, to send you information about our program strategies and charitable activities or confirmation of your donations, and to provide you (if you have signed up for) our newsletters.  You can opt out of our marketing and newsletter emails at any time. 
  • To fundraise in accordance with our internal policies and procedures. We may use your personal information to organize and invite you to events that you have registered for, or which we think may interest you, and to provide you with information relating to the content of the event, the speakers, sponsors, other attendees, and activities relating to our events, programs and other charitable activities.  We may also use your information to help improve, organize, and plan future fundraising activities and our program strategies and objectives.
  • To deliver targeted advertising to you. We may process your information to develop and display personalized content and advertising tailored to your interests, location, and more, including without limitation sending you emails about charitable causes and initiatives that we are working on that we think you may be interested in hearing about.
  • To identify usage trends and to improve our website. We may process information about how you use our website to better understand how they are being used so we can improve them and to ensure that content is presented most effectively for you and our users. 
  • To determine the effectiveness of our marketing and promotional campaigns. We may process your information to better understand how to provide marketing and promotional campaigns that are most relevant to you.

To administer our website, program strategies and charitable activities and for our internal operations.  We may process your personal information to administer our website, program strategies and charitable activities and for internal operations, including without limitation, for troubleshooting, data analysis, testing, research, statistical and survey purposes.

WITH WHOM DO WE SHARE YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION WITH?

In Short: We may occasionally disclose, share and exchange personal information to various third parties including our vendors, consultants, service providers, affiliates, collaborators, professional advisors and other third parties as described in this section.  

Vendors, Consultants, and Other Third-Party Service Providers. We may share your data with third-party vendors, service providers, contractors, or agents (“third parties”) who perform services for us or on our behalf and require access to such information to do that work. The third parties we may share personal information with are as follows:

  • Payment Processors.  We engage third parties to process donations or other payments you make to us (“Payment Processors”). You may be redirected on a Payment Processors’ website or application to make your donation or other payment.  If so, the data collection and use practices of the Payment Processors’ website or application will govern your transactions on the Payment Processors’ website or application  We encourage you to read their privacy notice, statement, or policy and its terms of use.  
  • Social Media Sharing and Interest-Based Advertising. We may engage third parties to place our interest-based advertisements across the Internet for the purpose of engaging and informing you about our organization, activities we fund, and the issues we care about. These third parties may use tracking technologies to collect information about your visits and interactions with our website, tools, advertisements and other communications. Some advertisements may be personalized, meaning that they are intended to be relevant to you based on information collected about your visits to our sites and tools and elsewhere over time.  For example, we may utilize Facebook advertising features. 
  • Web and Mobile Analytics.  We may partner with third parties to assist us in the overall performance and analytics of our website.  For example, we use Google Analytics and Google Ads remarketing service as provided by Google Inc. Google uses cookies and tracking pixels to among other things, help us to analyze how users use the websites gather reports on our website’s activity, and provide other services relating to our website’s activity.  It also allows us to track IP address, geo-location, operating system, type of device (mobile or desktop), type of browser or mail program used, user behavior on a website, social network, time the website was visited, website traffic, and sales conversions.   • Website Hosting.  We engage a third parties, such as Webflow, to help design, operate and maintain our website through their web page platform.  Such service providers may have access to certain information collected through our website as they perform such services for us.      

Affiliates. We may share your information with our employees, agents, and affiliates who have a business need to know for: operational, management and administrative purposes; internal audit, legal, regulatory, security, insurance, financial, and other similar purposes; or as otherwise permitted by law. 

Collaborators.  We may share your information with third parties who we partner or collaborate with to fund or conduct products or host events. 

Professional Advisers.  We may disclose your personal information with our professional advisers, legal counsel, accountants, insurance brokers, and agents to administer our relationship with you or to facilitate our internal business operations. 

Social Networks.  We may obtain your information from a social media platform if you interact with us on our social media accounts, platforms and networks and may share any posts or content that you have tagged us on or relate to our website, organization, charitable activities, projects and events.

Third Parties in Connection with a Merger, Acquisition or Other Business Transaction. We may share information if we are involved in a merger, acquisition, sale of all or a portion of its assets, financing, joint venture, reorganization, dissolution, liquidation, or other event where we sell or transfer all or a portion of our assets. We will not provide you with notice before disclosure in such cases.

Third Parties for Security and Compelling Disclosure Purposes. We may disclose your personal information in response to lawful requests by public authorities and to meet national security or law enforcement requirements. With respect to our volunteers, we share your information to third parties such as medical health providers in the event a medical emergency occurs while you are volunteering in the field.  We may share your personal information in connection with legal requirements, such as in response to an authorized subpoena or when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, to protect your safety or the safety of others, or to investigate fraud. Such disclosures may be conducted without notice to you.  

Third Parties that You Direct Us to Share With. We may share your personal information at your request or direction, such as when you donate to our organization on behalf of another person and direct us to notify such person of whom you donated on behalf of. We may also share your personal information with those that you have consented or directed us to share your information with.

DO WE USE COOKIES AND OTHER TRACKING TECHNOLOGIES?

In Short: We may use cookies and other tracking technologies to collect and store your information.

We may use cookies and similar tracking technologies (like web beacons and pixels) to access or store information. 

Like many organizations, we and our third party partners also collect information through cookies and similar technologies, including without limitation:

  • Strictly necessary cookies. These are cookies that are required for the operation of our website, such as cookies that enable you to make donations through our website, or cookies that enable us to comply with the law (for example, to keep your information safe). DO WE COLLECT INFORMATION FROM MINORS?

DO CALIFORNIA RESIDENTS HAVE SPECIFIC PRIVACY RIGHTS?

CONTROLS FOR DO-NOT-TRACK FEATURES

At this stage no uniform technology standard for recognizing and implementing DNT signals has been finalized.
