Indoor Bathrooms for the Community of Chinle

In the heart of the Navajo Nation lies Chinle, a community that faces significant challenges. Many homes lack bathrooms, running water, and electricity, underscoring the urgent need to improve living conditions. When the Chinle chapter learned of International Relief Teams’ skilled construction volunteers, they asked for help building and attaching bathrooms inside existing homes. This program is transformative for the 100 families who do not have indoor restrooms. Two volunteer teams have already been deployed to Chinle, where they built three bathrooms. Many more teams will follow.

The impact of this program extends far beyond convenience. It restores dignity and improves the quality of life for the people of Chinle. This project is a vital step towards addressing the deep-rooted poverty in the Navajo Nation. It also shows the power of community and volunteerism to create sustainable change.

“Being able to provide sanitation facilities for people was by far ONE of the most important volunteer jobs I have ever been a part of,” said Diane Oldsen, an International Relief Teams volunteer.

This work is vital in addressing poverty in the Navajo Nation and highlights the strength of community and volunteerism in creating change.
