How Education and Care Changed Estrella’s Life

A Painful Beginning

Estrella, age 11, and her 5-year-old twin brothers had a past filled with instability and much of their time was spent out on the streets. In March 2021, they arrived at Kids Kingdom, an orphanage in Ensenada, Mexico. Kids Kingdom provides a safe and nurturing environment for vulnerable children who have experienced neglect, abandonment, or abuse.

Learning to Read, Learning to Thrive

“The process has been difficult since I miss my mom, but I know that we are here for our own good and here I feel protected, safe, and well cared for,” Estrella shared.

Before coming to Kids Kingdom, Estrella had never attended school and did not know how to read or write. Because of COVID, local schools in Mexico did not reopen until April 2022. During this time, the tutors at Kids Kingdom worked closely with Estrella to teach her to read and write. She was eager to learn and progressed quickly.

She completed her primary education in just three years and received two Certificates of Achievement, which are awarded only to the top three students. Now 15 years old and in the 8th grade, Estrella continues to excel and has earned two additional academic awards. She now dreams of becoming a kindergarten teacher.

From Survivor to Scholar

Estrella’s story is a powerful reminder of the transformation that is possible when children are given safety, education, and consistent care. Because of our donors’ support, Estrella and her brothers were not only removed from danger, they were given the opportunity to grow, learn, and begin building a future filled with purpose.

For years, International Relief Teams has ensured that children at Kids Kingdom receive the nourishment they need to grow healthy and strong. If you want to join in supporting the children at Kids Kingdom, give a gift of compassion today.
