International Relief Teams Provides Additional Shipments of Food to the San Diego Food Bank for COVID-19 Relief Efforts

July 30, 2020 - San Diego-based International Relief Teams (IRT) is providing the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank with additional shipments of canned food and dry goods to help meet the increased demand for food assistance during theCOVID-19 pandemic. These shipments total more than $100,000 worth of food.

 

International Relief Teams’ executive director Barry La Forgia and San Diego Food Bank president and CEO James A. Floros will be available for joint interviews on Tuesday, August 4th at 9:30 am at 9850 Distribution Ave, San Diego, CA 92121. Donated canned goods include black beans, pinto beans, and mixed vegetables totaling more than 128,000 cans. The dry goods include more than five tons of pinto and black beans. The food will be delivered this week and next week.

We have partnered with the San Diego Food Bank for many years and we are proud to support their extraordinary response to this pandemic.”

 

San Diego Food Bank president & CEO James Floros said, “We are very grateful to International Relief Teams for supporting the Food Bank’s emergency hunger-relief programs during this unprecedented time. Donations are critical to the San Diego Food Bank since we have nearly doubled the number of people that we are feeding in communities throughout San Diego County. We extend our deepest gratitude to International Relief Teams for supporting our hunger-relief programs during the COVID-19 pandemic. IRT’s donation of more than 128,000 pounds of food, in addition to its past support in May of 93,210 pounds of food, is enabling us to meet the skyrocketing demand for food assistance. On behalf of the Food Bank’s staff and family of volunteers, we thank everyone at IRT for helping the community during this crisis and ensuring that our fellow San Diegans in need are able to put food on the table for their families.”

 

International Relief Teams made their first donation to the San Diego Food Bank to support COVID-19 relief in May 2020. The donation totaled 93,210 pounds of food providing 77,675 meals to those in need.

 

In addition to supporting the Food Bank, International Relief Teams has also provided support in the amount of $10,000 to the San Diego Foundation’s COVID-19 Community Response Fund, which is supporting San Diego workers and families most affected by the coronavirus crisis.
