In the heart of the Navajo Nation lies Chinle, a community that faces significant challenges. The absence of bathrooms, running water, and electricity in many homes underscores the urgent need to improve the living conditions of the community.
When learning of International Relief Teams’ skilled construction volunteer teams, the Chinle chapter asked for our help in building and attaching bathrooms to existing homes in Chinle. This program is transformative for the 100 families who do not have indoor restrooms. Two of our dedicated volunteer teams have already been deployed to Chinle, where they built three bathrooms. Many more teams will follow.
The impact of this program extends far beyond convenience. It’s about restoring dignity and enhancing the quality of life for the people of Chinle. This project is a vital step towards addressing the deep-rooted poverty in the Navajo Nation, showcasing the power of community and volunteerism in creating sustainable change.
“Being able to provide sanitation facilities for people was by far ONE of the most important volunteer jobs I have ever been a part of,” said Diane Oldsen, an International Relief Teams Volunteer.
